Violent Night

True to its name, this movie was a very Violent Night with the jolly old Saint Nick, Santa Claus. This Christmas Movie was full of action, dark comedy, and blood-filled; lots of gory action.

My first impression was shock and surprise, and my reaction wasn’t about the dark comedy but the gory scenes. I was not expecting that much gore for a Christmas movie. The filmmakers ensured they went over the top with the blood spraying and the amount of blood. The blood spraying took a lot away from the comedy part. During the scenes, it was hard to pay attention to what they were saying due to the fighting. The dark comedy that I paid attention to due to the lesser action parts did cause laughter and made me enjoy the film. A couple of the scenes that made me laugh hard included the young actress who played the daughter Trudy. One of her best comedy moments was with her discussing with Santa to figure out the best word for butthole, so she would not end up on the naughty list.

The setup for Santa losing this passion for delivering gifts to children in this modern day time, where they only want video games and money. Then how saving the family, especially the little girl, makes him find this passion again for being Santa, but what Santa does for other kids around the world with this new world. I also liked the setup for the main storyline of the wealthy family being held hostage over money in the house safe. The movie’s main villains added to the Christmas atmosphere even though the head guy hates Christmas.

Overall the film was good and very enjoyable for a new action-packed Christmas movie. While in the theater watching the film, I could hear people around me laughing during the comedy and gasping during the goriest parts. I enjoyed the movie and would like to see it another time to enjoy the comedy parts.
