I was excited about this film for one reason: the four leading ladies; Sally Fields, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Rita Moreno. These women are known not just for their acting but using their gifts to give great comedic performances. They did an excellent job!
The script was heartwarming, showed what true great friendships are, and included comedic relief. There wasn’t a dry or dull part of the film. It was delightful, funny, and overall a cute movie. The scenes and mini-plots throughout the film were amusing, entertaining, and hilarious, making me and other movie viewers in the theater laugh out loud.
The film’s plot explains each main character’s life easily, and it felt not forced and rushed for the writer to get to the movie’s main point. You were able to get to know each amazing woman throughout the film and be there as you watched them go through this short time to experience life and a changing event. I enjoyed who each character is, what they bring into the friendship, and how similar they are to being best friends. Each of their characters playing off each other, their personalities, and their mini-stories were perfectly done to add more comedy and make it an enjoyable movie.
This film is credited as a sports comedy, and it was based around the New England Patriots playing in Super Bowl LI in 2017. With it based around this football team, we were given some areas about football and included certain football players from the team. With this for the main plot, the film focuses more around the leading ladies. I like football, but I was glad the writers focused more on the characters than on football.
If you enjoy a heartwarming comedy with great actresses and you like football, especially Tom Brady. This 98-minute film is for you and worth seeing!
**Spoilers
I am giving away spoilers based on each leading lady character for this part. So please, if you want to avoid reading and learning about aspects of the film, do not read on.
About each leading lady;
Sally Field (Betty) was a mathematics professor married to her husband, who relies on her for everything. Her character was my favorite! The best two moments were the hot sauce wings competition and being high off a gummy(her dancing and talking to the young man about finding a girlfriend).
Jane Fonda (Trish) was a fanfiction romance writer. Who is a hopeless romantic, falling in love with men very quickly. I loved that her fanfiction books are a big hit, but she falls in love with an old football player Dan.
Rita Moreno (Maura) was a new widow who decided to live in a senior home instead of the house where her husband and her lived. She isn’t able to step in their place due to him passing away the year before. Their love was immense in her character plot. Throughout the movie, you get to see her start to enjoy life but also get to remember her husband in the small memories(playing poker). I enjoyed it at the end when she finally felt that she could move back home.
Lily Tomlin (Lou) was the main reason why these ladies started to watch football. At the start of Tom Brady’s career, she was going through chemo. Tom coming off the second string, her friends helping her during this challenging time, and them enjoying watching the football games every Sunday helped her through cancer and changed their friendship. She is also the main reason they go to the Super Bowl, and she decides to buy tickets and all the experiences there because she has some donuts about her test results from the oncology doctor.
Each of their characters were done perfectly!
