After 13 long years of waiting, we finally got the second movie in the Avatar series; Avatar: The Way of Water. Seeing the trailer for this movie made me feel excited to get back into the theaters after the past 3 years. But there was a part of me nervous that this movie would not live up to the hype of the first movie.
Overall the movie was great; you would HAVE to see this in the theaters to enjoy and experience the graphics. Computer CGI/Graphics were terrific, OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD. Every water scene just took my breath away; it was beautiful. The making of the world for this movie was brilliant, from the animals to the tiny organisms in the water and to the new characters and their way of life.
The avatars look more natural than ever before. With the avatar character’s CGI, I loved how they made Jakes and Neytiri kids look like them. With James Cameron’s attention to detail with the children, you notice the different personality traits of all 4 kids and how they were similar to their parents. For example, I saw their oldest son Neteyam had more characteristics of their mother with how he held himself with certain events happening and how he pins his lips like his mother does. Lo’ak had more features of his father, such as how he carried himself at the old battlefield (where he flipped off Quaritch), how he was reckless and not thinking of his actions, and how he is with Tsireya. He reminds me of how Jake was in the first movie.
The movie’s plot was predictable, even though James introduced us to a new world with an exciting new story. Most of the film was predictable with the way the characters were headed and the whole direction of the movie. With this, the plot was still good, and it was a great way to set up the following two films. In the plot, I did not like the character development of Neytiri at the end; Jake’s development for me was more understanding because in the movie, he explains himself more, and we get to see more of his actions to describe his character. With the way James took Neytiri, you saw her actions, but she did not explain herself; in my viewer’s eyes, I wanted to hear her talk more about how she felt and what she wanted. You don’t get to see her react with the new tribe, but you get to see all the other Sullys.
The first Avatar movie was about Jake’s story, whereas Avatar: The Way of Water is about Sully’s kids. I hope we learn more about the family in the next film, but I would love to see Jake and Neytiri more.
I really enjoyed this movie to the point that I saw it a second time! It was so good that I did not feel that the film was over 3 hours long, as it kept my attention throughout.
Definitely go see this movie!
